Written Summary:

There seems to be a trend in the Martial Arts instructional DVD world towards incorporating bodyweight exercise into one’s program. . Matt Furey has combat conditioning, and Scapper has his Training for Strength series. Now we have the latest by Greg Mihovich. First let me say Mr. Mihovich is obviously in great shape and from the looks of what he does he must have been a gymnast at some point in his athletic career. He shows a lot of standard bodyweight exercises such as squats and pushups as well as exercises done on gymnastic rings. I am familiar with most of the exercises he demonstrates, although I admit there are some I can’t do. He clearly breaks down all the exercises and shows the dos and the don’ts. The DVDs are nicely shot and my feeling is that if you have never done bodyweight exercises before this is a good introduction and worth getting. If you are already familiar with this type of training this series is not mandatory. If I was choosing my DVDs I would certainly pick Mr. Mihovich over someone like Matt Furey who has made a lot of money selling videos he shot in his living room to people like me. Mr. Mihovich doesn’t seem to be into the hype and genuinely seems to care about what he is teaching. The bottom line is I would like to have seen a more practical application of these exercises for your martial arts, similar to Juan Carlos Sanntana and Martin Roooney’s DVD series. I believe most can figure that out, but as we are a martial arts website I wanted to see the direct crossover of the exercises. None the less if you do these exercises you will certainly have more control and strength for your particular Martial art. The DVD on mobility is also good, and once again we have seen it before with people like Scott Sonnon and Pavel. All in all Mr. Mihovich gives us a decent product. I am certainly looking forward to future DVDs from the Underground Gym and how they relate their products to the martial arts community.
