Written Summary:
This video
tape is a seminar that was held in Toronto,Ontario in June of 1998. The Instructor
is 3x Sambo Champion Andrei Sosnovskikh. This video is one of the great bargains
in the current tape market. (This and Tony Cecchine’s Catch Wrestling seminar tape
are must have video’s on leg locks). For only $29.95 this tape is a steal for anyone
interested in learning about leg locks. I found Mr. Sosnovskikh to be a knowledgeable
and competent Instructor. This video is not just an array of various leg locks given
in no particular order. It is a well thought out and organized production. Some of
the material has been shown before on other video tapes however a lot will be new
to the viewer. The only negative aspect of this video is the production quality.
The sound at times is a problem, sometimes it is hard to understand what Mr. Sosnovskikh
is saying. Also there are at times some annoying background noises ie. clanging of
weights and people talking. The camera angles for this video are better than most
other seminar type tapes. Overall the production quality of this video is still
quite good and would in no way stop me from purchasing this product.
This
video starts by showing the basic mechanics of various leg locks such as the achilles
lock, figure four foot lock, knee bar, squeezing calf lock and the hip twist. All
of these are explained in excellent detail.
Here is some of what is on the
remainder of this tape:
- leg lock to defeat the quarter position
- leg
locks from within the guard
- leg locks from the mounted position
- leg locks
when you have been mounted
- ways to escape a rear naked choke via a leg lock
-
rear bear hug escape into a knee bar
- leg locks when you find yourself on the
ground and opponent is standing
- section on arm bars to leg locks
- how to
flow from one leg lock to the next
- defenses to ankle locks
- section on strengthening
techniques without using weights
Advance students may find some of the material
basic but there is still some useful material on this video for the advanced practitioner.
This tape has so much good information at a great price. BUY IT. I would like
to see Mr. Sosnovskikh make a complete series in the future on Sambo. (I would suggest
having the tapes professionally produced).
