Written Summary:

This time Bob Pierce of TRS says he’ll pay anybody 10 bucks who is not blown away with another of the talented martial artists he represents. Unlike my Bruce Drago review, I am not complaining about Glenn Boodry. On the other hand, the TRS hype about learning the most vicious and simple to master fighting system ever to be experienced is laughable. I’m sure that Mr. Boodry is not a part of the sales pitch. He has made an honest product. TRS now owes me twenty bucks and I’m keeping a running tally. One day I’ll collect. There are four DVDs and an audio CD on home security that I kind of dozed off too. So, let’s get to the DVDs.

The ground fighting and clinch video shows that Mr. Boodry obviously has good skills. I do question one of his statements though, that says,” once you clinch collect your thoughts, look around and then fire away”. I think that leaves you open to just about anything. Why wouldn’t you clinch and have at it. Off we go to takedowns. Boodry tries to make his takedowns less traditional and more combative, but he still uses hip throws. If it is meant to be more combative, then why not manipulate the head for takedowns. I prefer David James and Rich Dimitri and for that matter Kelly McCann in the takedown department. I have no doubt that Mr. Boodry is a very good martial artist and grappler, you can see it in his movements. I’m thinking though about us mere mortals who don’t have to time to screw around when it comes to saving our lives.

Boodry's stand up tapes covers the usual suspects, Thai, Filipino and now combat boxing. Once again, Boodry obviously knows what he is doing, but why would you risk breaking your hand hitting someone close fisted. This one had me pondering, as Mr. Boodry is out in the field, doing special ops in foreign lands. I would imagine the last thing he needs is a broken hand.

I like a lot of the techniques on this DVD series, my favorite being the edged weapon DVD. It is a practical and competent system. I thought his first DVD was a waste. The whole tape was one big flow chart of conflict and how to resolve it. Lots of slogans and pi graphs. Just hit him! Speaking of slogans, the running slogan on his DVDs is “lay the hate”, when reigning down strikes on his opponent. I would really like to see Mr. Boodry apply some of his system on a charging live opponent as in Mr. Dimitri’s DVDs. Most tapes these days seem divided into two camps, technique and live application. I think I am firmly in the live action camp. I am not questioning Mr. Boodry’s ability; it’s just that I would truly like to see it against someone who is resisting for real.

My final take is that Boodry is okay but there are better DVDs out there if you’re on a budget. The closest his DVD resembles is Kelly McCann, and I would say get McCann. If you have extra money to spend or are related to Mr. Boodry then by all means buy his DVDs.
