Written Summary:
This tape deals with
gun disarms from a police perspective but can be applied very well even if the viewer
is not a member of law enforcement. The techniques shown are not that difficult to
learn and many of them are similar enough that the same base movement is applied
even though the weapon is being placed against a different side of the body.
Some
of these disarms I had never seen before. Whenever Mr. Lane and his uke would set
up to do a disarm technique, I would say to myself " Oh yeah, yeah, I've seen
this one before " and then, bang, " Hey wait a minute, I have not seen
this one before ". In other words, there are some new moves ( at least to me
) in this tape on dealing with gun disarms.
Mr. Lane gives good explanations
of what he is doing and why he is doing it. He speaks easily and directly to the
viewer in terminology that all viewers can understand. There is also some sound advice
given on dealing with an attacker who is pointing a gun at you. All of Mr. Lane's
techniques can be trained to lightning quickness because there is not a lot wasted
energy. These disarms are short, quick, and sweet once you have invested the proper
amount of training time in these moves.
Regardless of your martial arts background,
the gun disarms on this tape are worth a look. This tape is a buy because 1) everybody
should know some gun disarms 2) the techniques seem to be biomechanically sound (
they won't get you shot if done correctly ) and 3) You may want to unlearn the disarms
you already know and try to learn some of these. The main problem with this video
is that with a title like “ War Zone “, I expected more than gun disarms. Also, even
though these disarms looked good, you never know for sure until you try them out
with some kind of pellet firing device. Until I do that with these disarms, they
remain unproven, at least to me.
