Written Summary:
This tape is a bonanza
if you are interested in learning more about grappling techniques that attack the
neck via chokes. As I mentioned in the preview, there are over 100 techniques when
you count all the variations and applications of each choke. Mr. Lala really seems
to know his stuff in this video. Mr. Lala goes into great detail about the fine points
of choke application including proper hand placement, how to hold the gi correctly,
and how to properly remove slack from a gi. All of these are small but critical components
to knowing how to choke properly and the kind of details that are often left out
of some grappling videos.
A lot of the material on this tape involves using
a gi to apply a choke so one can assume that much of the material is aimed at the
NHB crowd. There is enough material presented that one can take some of the gi chokes
and make them " street effective ", depending on what the opponent may
be wearing on his torso. There was an excellent section on the last part of the tape
on how to defend against being choked out. I felt this particular section was the
most readily adaptable to street self defense.
Marco Lala is obviously a highly
skilled and talented martial artist. I hope we have the pleasure of reviewing more
of his videos in the future.
