Written Summary:
This video
focuses on what should, in the reviewers opinion , be the basis of grappling training,
i.e. the ability to escape from inferior positions and/or submission techniques that
are about to be applied. A list of contents of this video is as follows :
1.
Defence against straight arm-bar
2. Escape from arm-bar attempt from rear-mounted
position
3. Escape from triangle choke
4. Escape from rear gi choke
5. Escape
from the mount
6. Defence against the guillotine
7. Defence against the ankle-lock
8.
Escape from knee-bar
9. Defence against the heel-hook
Inevitably, I liked
some of these techniques better than others. As stated in the previous two reviews,
I believe, and yes, it is only my opinion , that Mr. Taktarov, in spite of his obvious
ability and experience , operates from a slightly different conceptual basis than
the one my grappling instructors emphasised . Once again, I feel that Mr. Taktarov
works via his specific, individual technique against his opponent's specific , individual
technique. I was taught to work via positions , rather than techniques. What this
means in practice is that Mr. Taktarov will, for example , create some space so as
to escape and then will execute a counter- technique without first obtaining a superior
position. I feel that this would work against an inferior opponent but not against
one of equal or even slightly superior abilities. I was taught that the first priority
would be to work oneself into a superior position and to then only counterattack.
Again, this does not make this tape useless or inferior , it just means that , in
the reviewers opinion it would not be one of the top ten "must buy" grappling
instructional tapes.
